They are figuring out what type of day they will have with you. They will know if they will be able to push your buttons or not. Even if your students are young they will feel and read your body language. Your body language will advertise your actions and also your emotional state that will predicts your action.

Your body language has to shout to the students that you mean business. You as the teacher need to use your body language to convey that. This gives you the ability to be one step ahead of your students. By using your body language effectively you will also help your students succeed in class.

Body language is a new language for beginning teachers. They need to be aware of body language and learn to utilize it. Using body language will greatly help with small behavior problems that usually become big behavior problems.

We will discuss body language in reference to the number one problem that disrupts a class. When teachers were asked the number one problem that they had with classroom management, 80% of the time their response was student talking to their neighbor.

The teacher's body language must be read and spoke at a conscious level for teachers to be affective. When using body language the most difficult aspect of this strategy is that discipline always comes before instruction. This aspect of classroom management appears to be easy but it's not for beginning teachers. They are torn between continuing to help their student, who is close to getting the problem to contending with the discipline problem. When you are torn between the two you give your students mix messages about behavior.

Remember body language must clearly shout to the student that you mean business. The following steps are suggestion in how to deal with the disruption:

Remember to stay calm (no easy task) take a moment to center yourself

Excuse your self from the student that you are helping so he knows what is happening

Approach the disruptive student or students in a calm manner the slower the better, never quickly. Moving slowly signals to the disruptive student that they are the problem, utilizing this time and energy to the problem will help the student to take you seriously.

By following the suggestions, you have laid the first steps to meaning business. To the layman person it seems that you have done nothing but to a child it shows them that you have made a conscious decision to deal with the problem. In order to drive the point even further you need to do something physical.

The theory that we are talking about is "discrimination training". These are stimulus that your students will use to read if you mean business.

The physical response begins with a very basic turn of the body to face the disruptive student:

Always turn slowly, turn completely so you are facing the student. You should face the student with both feet pointing to the disruptive student.

Always make a full turn partial turns give mixed signals and will cause the undesirable behavior to reappear

The turn if done correctly will signal to the disruptive student that you have changed from an instructional mode to a mode of discipline. Calmness means strength for the teacher. Remember Discipline always comes before Instruction. Once your turn is perfected you need to learn the dreaded teacher look.

Learning to use this will help you build tension between the disruptive students and you. As the tension builds the student learns that you mean business and should return to his work.

Remember calm and slow:

don't clench your jaw

don't raise your hands, arms or play with your fingers put your hands across your back.

don't smile even if the disruptive student smiles, you need to have a poker face so they can't read your emotions.

Have patience with yourself this new way of dealing with disruptive students takes time to learn and master. For some it will come easy because they had parents who used the same strategies when dealing with them as children. For some teachers it will take longer. Remember meaning business equates discipline before instruction. Happy teaching.

Written by a veteran teacher of 32 years who hopes to give new teachers tried and true strategies that work. Her father Elliott Roosevelt was President Theodore Roosevelt's younger brother and her mother Anna Hall was a descendent of the Livingstons, a distinguished New York family (FDR Library). Eleanor's mother, who was a beautiful woman, was ashamed of her daughter's looks and and for this called her "Granny". Her mother's remarks on her appearance had negative affects on young Eleanor leaving her a shy and deferential girl, always wanting to please, well into her adult years. (Chosen Leaders and Their Researchers) But her father did not criticize her for her look. He always called her his "little Nell", and Eleanor had deeply loved him although he was heavily addicted to alcohol (First Lady Biography: Eleanor Roosevelt). Both her mother and father died when she was a child and since the death of her mother she lived with her grandmother Mrs. Valentine G. Hall, who was not a loving woman, in Tivoli, New York. (FDR Library). In 1899 her grandmother sent her to Allenswood, a girls' boarding school in England. "It was there that Eleanor, under the tutelage of the progressive Madame Marie Souvestre, began to gain some assertiveness. Souvestre chose Eleanor as her personal traveling companion in Europe and introduced her young pupil to the lifestyle of an independent woman".

She returned to New York in 1902, when she was at age18 (Eleanor Roosevelt 1884-1962 ). In 1905, when she was 20, she married her fifth cousin Franklin Roosevelt, "a suitable match for a woman of her class. But Franklin's overly-protective mother soon began to extend her control over her new daughter-in-law. "I was beginning to be an entirely dependent person," Eleanor said, "someone always to decide everything for me." Even after Eleanor had borne six children, her mother-in-law still largely dominated over her family life". Although Eleanor Roosevelt came to symbolize the independent and politically active woman of the twentieth century, in early stages of her life she shared the Victorian femininity found in other women of her class. "I took it for granted that men were superior creatures and knew more about politics than women did, and while I realized that if my husband was a suffragist I probably must be, too, I cannot claim to have been a feminist in those early days." Even when she married Franklin Roosevelt she knew a little, if nothing, of politics, being unable to explain the difference between America's national and state governments (Chosen Leaders and Their Researchers).

In 1915, President Wilson appointed Franklin under-secretary of the Navy and the Roosevelts moved to Washington. By then Eleanor was a mother of three boys and a girl; Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, 1906, James Roosevelt 1907, Elliott Roosevelt 1910, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jr. 1914.the other son of the family, John Aspinwall Roosevelt, was born just the next year, 1916 (First Lady Biography: Eleanor Roosevelt). But 13 year after her marriage, she resumed the search for her identity and just then she was shocked by a realty; her husbands affair with Lucy Mercer, Eleanor's social secretary (Goodwin, 1998). This shock changed the direction of her life a great deal. Although she continued her marriage based on Franklin's promise to never see mercer again, their relationship was never like before. She tried to reduce her dependence on her husband and to form a new personality for herself. But history and personal events combined to propel Eleanor to change from a feminine figure to a feminist political activist.

Woman activities, which was part of the general movement of the Progressive era aimed at purifying the corrupt world of men in the new urbanized and industrialized society. "Considering it a social duty, Eleanor joined such organizations" .To make up for the emotional failure she had suffered in her marriage, "she became closer to a group of individualistic, assertive women friends who traveled in various political and reform circles. Among them were Marion Dickerman, Nancy Cook, Lorena Hickok, and Frances Perkins -- all women whose independent careers made a profound impression upon Eleanor". Yet suffrage in 1920 expanded the already active women's role in the public sphere. Concerning the vote, Eleanor stated, "I became a much more ardent citizen and feminist than anyone about me in the intermediate years would have dreamed possible. I had learned that if you wanted to institute any kind of reform you could get far more attention if you had a vote than if you lacked one." when Franklin was paralyzed by a polio attack in 1921 Eleanor's activities really increased. Franklin "taught her to investigate and observe social conditions closely on her various trips throughout the U.S. so that they could discuss them in detail on her return". Louis Howe, her husband's political adviser, gave Eleanor the needed "political education" and "informed her of the issues surrounding her husband's various campaigns and positions, coached her on making speeches and appearing in public, and encouraged her interest in liberal reforms." But what boosted her activities to the ultimate degree was her becoming the First Lady in 1933 (Eleanor Roosevelt 1884-1962 ). She wasn't concerned with the food that was served or the general appearance of the White House (First Lady Biography: Eleanor Roosevelt). She "shattered the ceremonial mold in which the role of the First Lady had traditionally been fashioned, and reshaped it around her own skills and her deep commitment to social reform. She gave a voice to people who did not have access to power. She was the first woman to speak in front of a national convention, to write a syndicated column, to earn money as a lecturer, to be a radio commentator and to hold regular press conferences" (Goodwin, 1998). In this position she could further her wills and ends better. For example, she cleverly restricted 300 press conferences she had as the First Lady, to women journalists, knowing that news organizations all over the country would be forced to hire their first female reporter in order to have access to the First Lady (Goodwin, 1998). In an address to young women she once said: "If I were of debutante age, I would go into a factory, where I could learn a skill and be useful," alerting them against marrying too hastily before they had a chance to expand their horizons. And for the working women she said that the only thing they needed "was the courage to ask for their rights with a loud voice". She dreamed of her country "get away from considering a man or woman from the point of view of religion, color or sex." She also developed a sophisticated understanding of race relations. For instance, she refused to abide by a segregation ordinance that required her to sit in the white section of the auditorium, apart from her black friends and in another case she publicly resigned from the Daughters of the American Revolution after it barred the black singer Marian Anderson from its auditorium (Goodwin, 1998); later She helped her arrange a concert for 75,000 people at Lincoln Memorial (Little Known Facts). She rejected "separate but equal" doctrine, and argued that equal facilities were not enough: "The basic fact of segregation, which warps and twists the lives of our Negro population, [is] itself discriminatory." During World War II, Eleanor continued insisting that America could not fight racism abroad while tolerating it at home (Goodwin, 1998) She supported anti-lynching campaigns and fought for fair housing for minorities. "For the labor movement, she investigated working conditions and supported the right to organize. These issues and others provided the content for her "My Day" columns, which she wrote daily from 1936 to 1962. The columns were published nationally and allowed Eleanor to reach millions of Americans" (Eleanor Roosevelt 1884-1962 ).

Eleanor was speaking at a club in Washington, D.C. on April 12, 1945 when she was summoned back to the White House and realized her husband's death (First Lady Biography: Eleanor Roosevelt).

After Roosevelt's death, Mrs. Roosevelt continued public life. "She was appointed by President Truman to the United States Delegation to the United Nations General Assembly, a position she held until 1953. She was chairman of the Human Rights Commission during the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was adopted by the General Assembly on December 10, 1948.

In 1953, Mrs. Roosevelt resigned from the United States Delegation to the United Nations and volunteered her services to the American Association for the United Nations. She was an American representative to the World Federation of the United Nations Associations, and later became the chairman of the Associations' Board of Directors. She was reappointed to the United States Delegation to the United Nations by President Kennedy in 1961. Kennedy also appointed her as a member of the National Advisory Committee of the Peace Corps and chairman of the President's Commission on the Status of Women. Mrs. Roosevelt received many awards for her humanitarian efforts" (FDR Library). In her Address to the United Nations General Assembly, on the adoption of the universal declaration of human rights she said:" Let this third regular session of the General Assembly approve by an overwhelming majority the Declaration of Human Rights as a standard of conduct for all; and let us, as Members of the United Nations, conscious of our own short-comings and imperfections, join our effort in good faith to live up to this high standard." (Eleanor Roosevelt). The novice political woman who once said, "It was a wife's duty to be interested in whatever interested her husband..." had traveled a long and lonely road. She wrote in her final years that "I could not, at any age, really be contented to take my place in a warm corner by the fireside and simply look on," This vitality lasted until November 7, 1962 when tuberculosis took her life. Now consider that once you earn a degree from a college, its reputation will be associated with you for the rest of your life. Every employer will see the name of the college or university you attended on your resume. Consequently, below are a few reputation-related considerations you should weigh prior to making a commitment to attend.

Famous or Infamous

Is the name of your school instantly recognizable? If so, it is either famous or infamous. Of the two, being famous is the only one better than being unknown. If a college has a bad reputation, it may in fact reflect on you. Schools that are famous can be a huge benefit to graduates; one that no one has heard of won't hurt, but a school with a bad scholastic reputation should be avoided.

Specialization

Some colleges are only well known for one course of study. This means it may have a bland, or even negative, reputation for other majors, while brandishing a great name in the area of your interest. If you are confident that the one specialty is for you, these schools are a great choice. Just make sure you do not end up at one of them studying outside their specialty.

Accreditation

This may be more crucial than any other factor. Is your college actually qualified to provide you a genuine education? There are many levels of accreditation, and each determines whether the institution is a university or simply a college. It also factors into the availability of a major in the subject you want, because a school must be accredited for each major. Even though its administration may claim to offer a "course of study" in your chosen field, it may not have the accreditation needed to offer that field of study as a recognized major.

How to Evaluate a College's Reputation

Evaluating a school's reputation is more an art than science. Ask older people you know what they think of the college and what it is best known for - then research what they tell you to ensure the accuracy of those comments. Speak with the school's own representatives about your questions or concerns, but don't necessarily embrace all you are told because they have incentive to position the school as positively as possible. Additionally, simply try researching the college via an Internet search engine to see what intriguing information pops up.

A school's reputation is perhaps the most important factor to consider when weighing the impact of your college on your future. If an employer believes you attended one that likely did not adequately prepare you for the job under consideration, it doesn't much matter in that situation whether you loved it and received a great education - it could still reflect poorly on you. Instead, you want the name of your school to help garner instant respect and admiration.

For practical college & university selection information, please visit http://www.college-selections.com, a popular site providing great insights concerning issues that help you with college choices such as New York fashion colleges and many more!

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_Franklin

Classroom Respect, Behavior & Learning

Stand on the playground during recess or in the hall during lunch and you'll hear the usual conversations about boys, girls, sports, homework, teachers, and student life in general; but what you're also likely to hear are many disrespectful comments being made by one student to another. Generally these are not scathing comments that will scar an individual for life, but they are rude, disrespectful, sarcastic, and basically inappropriate comments for anyone to make to another.

Sometimes as teachers we forget that our job is not only to provide the opportunity and information to learn--it is also our job to provide a safe and positive school and learning environment where learning may take place. Most of us are quick to stop outright aggressive behavior or violent talk, but far too often the more mild disrespectful and sarcastic comments are allowed to go unchallenged.

Whether we are conscious of it or not, we are behavioral models for all students. If we allow or ignore disrespectful comments between students, regardless of how mild, we are sending the message that these types of comments are acceptable. Our ignoring or refraining from commenting upon these comments actually reinforces this behavior, increasing the likelihood that such comments will continue to be made. As teachers, we can't control what happens in a student's life at home, at work, or even in the hallway--but we can control what happens in our classrooms (Beamon, 2001; Daniel and Benton, 1995).

As educators, it is our job to insure that all students are treated with basic respect while in our classroom and in our presence. According to Valerio (2001), a classroom is a "theatrical stage" that must be designed in advance to make students feel comfortable with their instructor, peers, and environment. How we structure our classrooms and what types of behaviors and conversations we allow has a significant impact on the perceived safety of our classroom.

It is important to keep in mind that safety and trust are determined individually by each student in the classroom. Although we may believe our classrooms are safe and each student feels he/she can take risks in the academic and social environment, this may not be the case. Our students may be physically safe, but if basic respect is not mandated in our classrooms, then many of our students will feel emotionally unsafe, which will negatively impact social and academic growth.

When students enter the classroom, they are bringing with them years of experiences and issues from the outside world. They have interacted with each other on many levels outside of school. Along with these outside interactions come deep-seated feelings about certain classmates. Regardless of whether these feelings are warranted, it is unlikely that we can change them. What we can change is the behaviors students change in response to those feelings. It is our responsibility to ensure that our students give one another basic respect.

Basic respect should be a bottom-line requirement for all individuals, adults and students alike, who enter our classroom. Students do not have to like everyone in the class, but they should be required to give basic respect to everyone. Let me say that one more time. You (students, teachers, aides, administrators, parents, etc.) don't have to like everyone in the classroom, but you will afford them basic respect at all times. This statement should be the mantra in all classroom settings nationwide.

It is always wise to begin each school year with a classroom discussion about the rules and rituals that will be followed for the year. Many of the classroom rules and rituals should be developed by and in cooperation with the students so there is a feeling of ownership, but not all rules should be negotiable. Classroom safety and basic respect should not be negotiated, and it should be made very clear that violation of these two bottom-line rules will not be tolerated. Students need to know that rude, sarcastic, threatening, mean-spirited, or negative comments, whether said in jest or not, will be met with consequences.

Due to today's media, many students have learned to use sarcasm as a form of communication and humor. Sarcastic humor is one of the most sophisticated forms of humor and most students and adults do have the social and emotional skills to use this form of humor correctly. Many individuals use sarcastic humor to veil threats, belittle others, point out flaws, or improve their position in a social group, all under the guise of humor. To allow such "humor" in our classroom sets a dangerous precedent. It sends students the message that they cannot be openly disrespectful, but they may be covertly disrespectful if they cloak their comments with sarcastic humor.

Since many of our students have never been taught what basic respect is and how to give it, how do we help them understand this concept? A simple method is to make this part of the rules and rituals discussion at the beginning of the school year (or each new term if classes change). Have the students name some of the individuals they admire and would treat with the utmost respect. Remind them that you are not asking them who they idolize (rock stars, sports figures, movie stars), but whom they admire and would give the utmost respect to in all situations. The list might include judges, grandparents, priests, bosses, and military personnel. Then tell the class that any comment not fit to be made to one of these respected individuals should not be made to another person in or out of the classroom.

There is a high likelihood that not all faculty will hold their students to this high standard, and this will make your job that much more difficult. Obviously, if this were a school-wide policy, students would learn to be respectful in all school situations. The fact that it will not be enforced by all faculty should not deter you from requiring basic respect in your classroom and in your presence. If as teachers we hold firm to the basic respect rule, our students will feel safer, and that feeling of physical and emotional safety will afford them the learning environment that will maximize learning and positive academic outcomes.

Mick Jackson is an Intervention Specialist with a Master's Degree in Special Education and Theory. Keeping few things in mind, you can enjoy learning online to its fullest. In this piece of writing I'll share some important tips that will surely help you in your journey of e-learning.

• Find out the institution that gives you best education for your money. There are websites on the internet that compare the pricing of different institutions. Thus giving you a better choice.

• Check the accreditations FIRST! An extremely important task it is. Never keep it aside. Give it first priority.

• Improve your writing skills. Practice to communicate via writing effectively. Writing, or shall I say typing is the most important skill an online learner must possess. Your tutor assesses you by the words you have typed out to him. Feel comfortable at expressing yourself in writing.

• Have an open mind. Be ready to accept diversities. Learn to share experiences with fellow students. Remember it is not important that your fellows in a course be from your own territory, they may be from some where opposite in the globe.

• Keep a strict check on yourself. On one hand where online education facilitates you with ease at studying when free, on the other hand it may make you lazy. Make a timetable for yourself and follow it strictly.

• Set aside 4-5 hours, preferably more, daily for study. Then only would you get good grades.

• Learn to communicate problems with your instructors. An instructor won't know you are facing a problem in learning or understanding something unless and until you speak up to him and tell him about it.

• Never take online education as an easy way to get education. The marking criteria, course, assignments and exams are all the same as in traditional colleges. They are not at all easier so never take them lightly or your grades would suffer.
• While studying online, mostly assignments and questions given by the instructors are based on critical thinking. The answers are always easy, but never jump to conclusions. Sit back, relax, think and answer the questions even if you have a 24 hour submission quiz.
• Complete assignments at least a day before the given deadlines. Don't wait till the last hour. Make a habit to complete at the earliest possible instance. Emergencies never knock!

• Communicate with your fellow course mates. You will get versatile ideas.

• Keep aside some space where you can sit and study daily for a few hours without any interruption.

• Be a strong believer in the merits of online education. Never hesitate to advocate it in a group decision.

• Make a routine to log on to your learning management system daily or at least every alternate day.

• Be polite in discussions. Yuk kita learning in vocational school disini yuk.

The most significant years in course of a child's development are spent in schools and it is therefore doubtless that the school education plays a very important role in designing the future of the child. Schools provide elementary education and their main purpose is to imbibe suitable amount of interest in the child to love education. Here education does not simply refer to book based learning but it refers to the overall development of character and personality. It is necessary to point out that there are different kinds of schools which are set up for the imparting of knowledge and the basic level commences for the primary schools and is followed by the secondary school and then the institutes of higher education like the colleges and universities. Vocational schools form a significant part of this system. The vocational schools are often referred to as Career College or trade schools and are responsible for providing vocational education. These schools have emerged to be of umpteen importances at present due to various reasons. One of the primary factors being that at present with the advancement of science and technology, human civilization has progressed by leaps and bounds and therefore newer avenues have opened up. Different technological fields are now open to employment. But in most of these cases, a certain amount of prior knowledge or training is extremely necessary. In these cases the vocational schools come of immense help as they are responsible for providing the required training to the interested students. It is to be remembered that till now vocational schools are available mainly for the development of skills and therefore their main agenda is not more of imparting education but to ensure proper training.

In most of the premier nations of the world, vocational schools are mostly private endeavors though there are certain government aided vocational schools as well. Usually students who are in the closing years of their high school education or those who have completed their high school education are considered eligible for these vocational schools. However, in recent times, a certain problem has been noticed in case of vocational schools. More often their extensive training has been under scanner for their below the grade quality and also they have also been blamed for planting the seeds of over expectation related to their future jobs amidst students. This is probably one significant reason which has contributed to the decrease in the number of vocational schools in the United States of America. Now, educational institutions provide alternative vocational course to aid their students.

For some,a traditional university degree is not for them. In truth.

Write it in your own words to give your essay its distinctive characteristics - your persona. Before you write this, seek out the requirements. Catalog and organize your facts. Write it down and embellish it with your personal thoughts.

Here is a list of the information to include in your narrative:
School grades
Recommendations from your school
Extra-curricular activities
Why you have applied for the college
The things you do to perform well in school
The things you can contribute to the college as a student

If you just enumerate this, and mail this to the college of your choice, nothing about you will show. The college officials will not be able to know your capabilities, thoughts, and potential.

The focal point

All college admissions panel look at the grades. How do you make sure they sit up and notice? If you are not an Einstein, show them around your stronger points. Remember you are also selling yourself, so never sell yourself short. Explain what the school subjects meant to you and how you coped admirably.

If the college application requires you to choose a topic, think of the things closest and dearest to your heart. Do not try to impress them by writing about heavy stuff that you are not familiar about. You could write about non-academic activities like sports and travel.

When writing about sports focus on the effect of the game on you as an individual. You are not required to describe a football game from the beginning to the end. Write why the game is interesting to you, and how it has affected your life.

If you write about a recent travel highlight the important gains of the trip. Do not be telling your readers about the bus or train schedules. Tell them instead of the significance of the trip in terms of meeting new people and seeing historical or beautiful spots - or how the trip has enriched your life.

Your college application essay will be easy for you to write. It is all about you, your experiences and your aspirations. You must review and rewrite your paper until you are satisfied with your work.

Sarah Brodie supports Free Essay Writing Help to give students open source of how to write good, non-plagiarized and well-formatted application essays.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Sarah_Brodie

Top 10 Tips On How To Get Scholarship In College

Top 10 Tips On How To Get Scholarship In College

#1 Apply only if you are eligible. Read all the scholarship requirements and directions carefully to make sure you're eligible before you send in your application.

#2 Complete the application in full. If a question doesn't apply, note that on the application. Don't just leave a blank. Supply all additional supporting material, such as transcripts, letters of recommendation and essays.

#3 Follow directions. Provide everything that's required, but don't supply things that aren't requested, you could be disqualified.

#4 Neatness counts. Always type your application, or if you must print, do so neatly and legibly. Make a couple of photo copies of all the forms before you fill them out. Use the copies as working drafts as you develop your application packet.

#5 Write an essay that makes a strong impression. The key to writing a strong essay is to be personal and specific.Include concrete details to make your experience come alive: the who, what, where, and when of your topic. The simplest experience can be monumental if you present honestly how you were affected.

#6 Watch all deadlines. To help keep yourself on track, impose your own deadline that is at least two weeks prior to the official deadline. Use the buffer time to make sure everything is ready on time. Don't rely on extensions, very few scholarship providers allowthem at all.

#7 Make sure your application gets where it needs to go. Put your name (and Social Security number, if applicable) on all pages of the application. Pieces of your application may get lost unless they are clearly identified.

#8 Keep a back-up file in case anything goes wrong. Before sending the application, make a copy of the entire packet. If your application goes astray, you'll be able to reproduce it quickly.

#9 Give it a final "once-over." Proofread the entire application carefully. Be on the lookout for misspelled words or grammatical errors. Ask a friend, teacher or parent to proofread it as well.

#10 Ask for help if you need it. If you have problems with the application, don't hesitate to call the funding organization.

If you follow the tips listed above on how to get scholarships in college, and then regularly apply to as many as you can, most likely you'll be able to find the money that you need to pay for your college education.

Visit Scholarship Experts today to start your scholarship search and Get your college scholarship at once!

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Xi_Hui
Ok friends my information for ezine about scholarship in college.
